The first page

Why this notebook exists, and why it says almost nothing about work.

I’ve been building tech products long enough to know one thing: it is very easy for work to become the whole of who you are. Titles, projects, numbers — they fill every empty space, until one day you can’t remember who you are outside of them.

This notebook is a way to keep hold of the rest.

Writing to think clearly

I don’t write because I understand. I write because I don’t, and putting it on paper is the fastest way to see where I’m fooling myself. Buddhist psychology calls this mindfulness — seeing the mind at work instead of being dragged along by it.

What you’ll find here

  • The values I’m trying to live by, and the times I fall short.
  • Notes on the mind, on people, on what I learn from the gym, the football pitch, and the dog at home.
  • A few side ideas that may well go nowhere.

Live true to myself, and pass on what I have received from this world.

If you’ve read this far — thank you for stopping by.
